BLACKPOOL rocked to a majestic night of entertainment - and The Queen "absolutely loved it".
Her Majesty was beaming with smiles after the Royal Variety Performance returned to the Opera House for the first time since 1955.

And it was today rated as the best ever royal show.

After Bette Midler, Lady Gaga, Whoopi Goldberg, Katherine Jenkins and host Peter Kay brought the house down, legendary West End producer Bill Kenwright said: "I always thought Blackpool was the Mecca of showbiz - tonight has proved it.

"The performance was better than any Royal Variety I've seen before."

Were you at the show, was it the best ever? Leave your comments below.

Yes it was totally fantastic - Long live the Queen! I know we can't get HM on a regular basis, but we need more events like this on this scale in town. A bit too Hollywood for my taste with the search beams and flaming torches, but the thousands waiting to greet the Queen and maybe try to spot some celebs, were a real credit. We have the venue, we have the organisational abilities, we have the need.... all we require is a decent marketing strategy by the council which seems to have become a bit lame recently in its determination.

Sounds a great night. That's two big TV shows in a few weeks.

Bit surprised at the writer above commenting the council have become lame when last week they announced the biggest deal in the town for years. As well as the 2 TV shows.

My eldest son was in the Guard of Honour at the train station. He was one of only two ATC cadets who were spoken to by the Duke of Edinburgh. I'm one prod Mum today

In other news, remember last weeks Gazette story about the twinning with Disney and how it was shortlisted to just two places; Blackpool and Milton Keynes?

Well it seems the winner is.... Swindon.

Looks like the show was a roaring success for the Blackpool so lets hope the powers that be dont leave it another 50 odd years before the show is back in Blackpool again looking forward to seeing the show on ITV a week tomorrow.
