A MAN who illegally claimed incapacity benefit on the grounds he was too ill to work was employed at a rock factory, a court was told.
Stephen Hollingmode, 46, of Horsebridge Road, Grange Park, admitted three offences of failing to notify a change in circumstances.

He was sentenced to do 200 hours' unpaid work for the community and put on 12 months' supervision by Blackpool magistrates.

Packer

Warren Spencer, prosecuting, said that during two periods between November 2005 and June 2006 Hollingmode worked as a packer at the Parterre Confectionery factory, Blackpool.

The defendant illegally obtained £6,343 in incapacity, council tax and housing benefits.

Peter Cave, defending, said his client had had a drugs problem which blighted his life.

He started work as therapy to take his mind off his drugs problem.

Mr Cave added: "He was paid £2.70p an hour. He would say his employer knew he was on benefits because he told him he was."
