ONE of Blackpool's leading tourist attractions has gone green.
For the Pleasure Beach is now generating its own power after installing six wind turbines in the 42 acre park.
They will be used to generate electricity which will help cut down fuel bills at the attraction and contribute to the running of rides which include Europe's tallest rollercoaster, the Pepsi Max Big One, and the world's largest dark ride – Valhalla.
Pleasure Beach managing director Amanda Thompson said: "It's fantastic to see the new turbines on Ocean Boulevard generating a green source of energy for our 100 rides and attractions.
"This is just one of our commitments to the environment and making Pleasure Beach a greener place."
The six wind turbines have been installed on the roof of the new education academy, located on Ocean Boulevard, overlooking the Promenade where they can harness the maximum amount of wind power.
Each of the turbines has a 66-inch diameter and they have been designed to fit in with the character of the park.
They are expected to generate 10,000 kilowatts of electricity per year – enough to run three households.
Energy will be fed into the Pleasure Beach electrical system. However, they are not the first turbines to appear on the seafront in South Shore.
Blackpool Council is already harnessing wind power at the Solaris and on the seafront.
