THE Seasiders were immediately linked with a move for striker Darren Byfield following his release by Bristol City.
Robins boss Gary Johnson yesterday released five players following the defeat by Hull in the Championship play-off final, including the veteran Byfield.

The much-travelled Byfield was City's top scorer last season with eight league goals but failed to earn a new deal at Ashton Gate.

The striker, who will be 32 in September, was linked with the Seasiders before moving to Bristol from Millwall last summer.

He had a brief loan spell at Bloomfield Road in the 1999/2000 season while on Aston Villa's books.

Byfield, who also had a loan spell at Preston, is now seeking his sixth club in as many years.
