Grayson: We'll take the criticism

SIMON Grayson has told his Blackpool side they must be big enough to take the flak being thrown at them after the derby defeat on the chin.
But he's instructed them to make the critics eat their words by storming back at Wolves on Saturday.

Pool face what appears the toughest of trips to the home of the runaway Championship leaders.

But Grayson reckons his players have every chance of causing an upset because they will be so stung by the reaction to the Preston loss.

"There is a lot of criticism around but the players have got to accept all that comes their way," said the Seasiders boss, who yesterday forced his team to watch a rerun of Sunday's defeat to learn from their mistakes.

"We have a group of players who are hurt and they have got to respond.
"Those were the strongest words I've had to have with my players in the dressing room for a long time.

"I was bitterly disappointed because of how we folded.

"We crumbled and my players are well aware of what I think. You throw a few opinions around in the dressing room and yesterday we had a chance to talk about it further.

"We had the bragging rights over Preston last year, which everybody loved.

"Now the boot is on the other foot and we've got to accept the criticism because of what this match means to people.

"Of course I'm down but I will pick myself up. The players too and I expect them to respond.

"It could be good that we are playing someone like Wolves, who will be big favourites.

"After we lost to Burnley earlier in the season – another local derby in which we did not play well – we went to Birmingham and surprised everyone by winning.

"I know Wolves are in great form and are a top team, but I believe in this group of players and I think they will give a really good account of themselves."

I take it that we will not be seeing any changes to the team that was disgraced on Sunday as it appears by Larry's comments that he is to give them a chance to redeem themselves.

Larry should show some bottle and admit some are not up to the challenge. Make changes or that relegation fight looks on again.

There is no way in this world he can stick with the same 11,for me jorgensen and southern can keep the bench warm with fox and hendrie coming in,gow and burgess also with kabba and McPhee coming in and i think i would give Gilks a chance may be even Broomes, grayson knows what hes doing lets just hope he gets it right

I don't think they should be feeling sorry for themselves, its the fans they should be feeling sorry for.

Rob Edwards made out in his interview after the game that he was bothered but that we shouldnt dwell on it apparently & we "need" to get behind them.

When we won at Watford nearly every player had an interview with the press to tell them how hard they worked, yet when its the other way round and we lose in the way that we did not one of them will come out openly and honestly and say how they let their fans down.

I know we are all hurting at the moment and that the performance (in some respect not so much the result) was hard to take, but lets put things in perspective - this is only our 2nd season in the Championship we do not have big money to spend on players. We, like the players ahve to move onto the next match and not call for the heads of all the players - who afterall have got us where we are. Yes things need to be shuffled but the way everyone is talking you'd think we had lost all our derby games for the rest of the season and been relegated already. Tuesday night I will be there SUPPORTING the team NOT having a go thats our job! Though the players need to get back to doing there job as well!

There are two issues to deal with here, and the first, and currently most painful is losing to PNE, the second and most important is form/ marale/ heart call it what you will, but it seems that it's slipped away over recent games.
Let's not confuse the painful issue with the important one.
We're still in a good position in the league (fantastic considering resources), and I believe SG will bring us out of this temporary dip in form.
We can't expect to go all season without problems, and I'm still backing them all the way. Come on you 'pool!
