Unfortunately the problems that plagued The Getaway finds its way into Gangs of London. What sounds like a good game on paper (Grand Theft Auto in London) works out terrible as a package. The games story begins with you choosing one of five gangs including English hooligans, Russian mafia and Triads. There is not much about the story, just a short introduction into the gangs. The story line too is disappointing with short introductions into missions. Missions show no fluency and there is no connection to the overall story, it’s just like a big pick and mix. The main target it seems is to take over your rival gangs territories by doing these weird missions. The game could be forgivable if the missions where fun - but unfortunately, they're not. Some missions have you repeat previous missions but without the benefit of a weapon. The stealth sections are a joke. Enemies will turn around no matter how quiet you creep around. The variety of the missions will leave you bored after an hours play as missions are repeated often, just with a different outcome to try to disguise this fact. A typical mission involves a few minutes; usually drive into another car to destroy it. The control set up destroys any chance of fun this game could offer. The aiming is clumsy, the auto aim feature is lousy and often picks ups cars instead of your enemies. Driving is even worse. If you ever played The Getaway you will know that it was a chore driving these cars around - in Gangs of London it is even worse. The PSP analogue stick is too sensitive for precision driving and you will often find yourself losing control. There are other modes in the game designed to make the game more interesting such as, driving fast to prevent a bomb from exploding, beating up civilians, and beating up zombies - but they too are flawed by the controls. Gangs of London isn't a game worth playing unless you want an excuse for throwing your PSP against the wall in frustration. The game does not improve on the hugely disappointing The Getaway, instead it makes it worse. |
